Protected Air Source
All Brownie's Third Lungs™ include a simple molded plastic carburetor intake. Such a simple design addition should not be taken for granted. Without one, wave splash will enter the carburetor and cause immediate-- and long-term-- damage to the unit. A wave splashing into an unprotected carburetor intake could also stall the engine while operating. The Brownie's Third Lung™ is the only surface supplied air unit to offer this extra measure of protection.

The Explorer's remote intake Dry Snorkel is yet example of Brownie's™ industry-leading innovation. Brownie's™ sets the standard in designs engineered to protect the compressor from direct water intrusion due to choppy seas or rainwater. Our Explorer Hookah designs incorporates a "pure" vertical dry snorkel for several important reasons, starting with vibration fatigue reduction. Only Brownie's™ has the experience to recognize the potential for vibration stress inherent in designs produced by newcomers to surface supplied air. The BTL™ design also places the actual air inlet farther away from the exhaust of the engine.

Ease of Use in Water
Too many hoses can be a drag when you and your friends are diving with a Hookah. The single main hose assembly is far superior in to towing two full lengths of hose in slightly different directions. By harnessing the energy of all divers in one common tow direction, our Brownie's™ Explorer glides effortlessly behind you. The single main hose still allows a total 40-foot separation between divers; good diving habits would encourage dive buddies to remain at least as close during a dive. Our single main hose greatly reduces the amount of hose spooled in water and simplifies retrieval and stowage. Brownie's™ used to offer multiple main hoses, but our customers were so much more enthusiastic about the single main hose that we realized that less was more-more ease of use, more fun in the water.

Feedback from our repeat customers also led to the development of the Brownie's™ swiveling hose quick disconnect fitting. Before Brownie's™ introduced the swiveling hose fitting, Hookah divers had to contend with the possibility of a kinked hose interrupting their air supply. The swivel fitting is an essential safety element that simplifies breathing hose control during a dive. The bore size in the interior of the fitting is calibrated to provide the flow of air necessary to allow a diver to a reach maximum depth of 105 feet. The fitting's quick release mechanism locks tight during a dive but allows you to break the system down quickly afterwards for stowing in the Brownie's™ gear bag. While our competitors use common brass garden hose fittings in place of the quick release fitting, we know from thirty years of experience in Hookah design that the quick release swivel™ provides the greatest ease of use (and margin of safety) for you. The fittings are manufactured from the same high-impact plastics found in scuba regulators and cell phones and will provide years of trouble-free use.
