Hookah Diving Systems

What is Hookah Diving?

Quite simply, hookah diving is when air is supplied to one or more divers from an air compressor that stays on the surface. The oil-less compressor that is at the heart of every Brownie’s hookah system pumps air through a hose to the diver or divers below. At the end of the hose is a breathing device called a regulator that delivers air to the diver. Hookah diving is a great alternative or compliment to scuba diving because it eliminates bulky equipment, costly tank fills and gear storage issues. Hookah diving also has many other advantages including less required gear and constant contact with other divers in the same group and a virtually unlimited air supply. To meet the variety of diving needs that exist, Brownie’s offers a wide range of systems that make diving easy from just about anywhere.

Brownie’s floating hookah diving systems make diving possible from just about anywhere. The floating systems are driven by a gasoline powered engine that can support up to 3 divers at depths up to 90 feet! Add-A-Diver Kits are also available that allow a fourth diver to join the fun.
If diving from a boat, Brownie’s Integrated Air System is the perfect way to explore underwater. This system is specially built right into the vessel, preserving valuable space. With the E-Reel™ upgrade to this system, the 150 feet of hose is conveniently stored automatically in an out-of-the-way location.This one compressor can also be used to drive all ship's air needs (doors, inflate fenders, etc).
Brownie’s also offers Electric hookah diving systems that use an external power source to run the air compressor. These units can be placed wherever there is space and a method to secure it, including a boat or pool deck. Brownie’s pressurized snorkel is a great alternative to a full hookah diving system for use as a maintenance tool in very shallow water.
Commercial hookah diving systems are available for heavy workload diving and extended use.

We Lost a Bunch of Parts...
With the development of the Brownie's™ Direct Drive hookah diving systems, we've eliminated belts, straps and pulleys from our power supplies. That means there's less to go wrong or require service. A revolution in surface supplied air, our new Direct Drive Compressor Systems also provide more air flow than was possible with conventional belt and pulley systems. Direct Drive allows divers to exert harder at depth than was feasible with older systems, and to reach depths that were previously beyond the range of older designs. All Brownie's™ hookah diving systems, with the exception of the C300 Commercial, are now Direct Drive.

Brownie's Third Lung™ makes floating Hookah units for every budget and application. The industry leading Pioneer line is designed for two divers. It will support two people at 80 feet, depending on how heavily they breathe and work at depth. No matter how you look at it, the F280 provides more features and a better value than any other surface supplied air system available-- at a lower price.

In 2001, Brownie's™ introduced the Pressurized Snorkel®. Specifically designed for extremely shallow water, single-person diving, the Pressurized Snorkel® draws a maximum of 8 amps with a limited 12-volt battery power consumption while providing sufficient air supply down to 6-10 feet, diver dependant. The expandable hose and proprietary tilt-valve "on-demand" regulator orifice design provide phenomenal efficiency.

The F390 systems take Hookah diving to the next level. The Explorer 390™ supports three divers at depths between 90-100feet (or 4 divers up to 60 feet deep). When used by 3 divers, the 390 can be used to approach the depth limits for recreational scuba diving, but we are most proud of its ability to support 4 divers over miles and miles of tropical reefs. Only Brownie's™ allows you to select the combination of features and benefits to fit your needs.

The Brownie's Third Lung™ commercial systems provide dependable performance for medium flow Hookah applications. Unlike the recreational series, our commercial systems are deck mounted in aluminum frames. Brownie's™ commercial systems are configurable with optional surface air accumulators to provide short bursts of relief pressure when the system is taxed by a heavy breathing rate. The workhorse C300 system is available in both diesel and gas configurations, and can be outfitted to provide up to fifteen hours of continuous use. Our Direct Drive C-270 and C-390 systems are the reference standard for performance in the Bahamas and Caribbean for harvesting lobster and conch under the most demanding and harsh conditions. The 110 volt AC electric systems are the yacht owner's tool of choice for boat and pool maintenance or for diving from a personal watercraft.
